Eagles Take Two in Doubleheader with UofH Victoria

TAMUT vs UHV – GAME 2

RHP, Jacob Cobb-Adams was given the ball in first game of the doubleheader against University of Houston-Victoria.

TAMUT took the first lead in the bottom of the 1st with having a 2 run inning. Cole Beckham led off with a hit by pitch and would make quick work with a stolen base. Cameron Frost laced an RBI double to right center to put the Eagles on the board. Zachary Boehler singled to right to drive in an RBI for TAMUT.

In the first 5 frames, Cobb-Adams kept UHV silent as he tossed 5 consecutive shut out innings. In the bottom of the 5th inning, TAMUT plated 3 runs to take a 5-0 lead on the Jaguars. Alex Kugler led off the inning with a walk that was followed by a hit by pitch from Kolton Perfect. Cole Beckham put down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third. A wild pitch allowed Kugler to score and Wyatt Miller ripped an RBI single to center to score Perfect. Cameron Frost would grab an RBI on a sacrifice fly to right field.

UHV scored 1 run in the top of the 6th to put the score at 5-1. The Jaguars recorded 3 hits to score their lone run of the inning. Cobb-Adams would be relieved by Jon Michael Cunningham with 2 outs in the inning. TAMUT would respond in the bottom half with 2 runs to go up 7-1. Zachary Boehler led off with a single to center field. Chase Beebe would enter as a pinch runner for Boehler and would steal second base on the first pitch. George Gugino hit an RBI single to right to score Beebe. Bronson Butcher put down a sacrifice bunt to advance Gugino. Alex Kugler squeezed home Gugino for the final run of the inning. Cunningham tossed the final frame and tossed a shutout inning to give TAMUT a 7-1 win over UHV.

The Eagles would scratch another run in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take a 2-0 lead on Texas College. Ethan Davis (JR/Midlothian, TX) doubled down the left field line. Chase Beebe (SO/Glenwood, AR) singled to shallow center to pick up an RBI in the process.

In the top of the 3rd, Texas College would cut the score in half with a single run. The Steers would record two hits to plate their run. TAMUT responded in the bottom half of the inning to get that run back. Cole Beckham (SO/Texarkana, TX) belted a solo homerun to left center for his 7th of the season. Caleb Dunn (FR/Dierks, AR) would finish his day after 3 innings of work, giving up 1 run, and fanned 1 batter.

TAMUT vs UHV – GAME 3

RHP, Neiko Yribe would be asked to toss the final game of the series against UHV.

The Eagles would take the lead in the bottom of the 2nd with a run. George Gugino started it off for TAMUT with a single to right. Zachary Boehler grounded out but advanced Gugino up to second. Alex Kugler ripped an RBI single to right to put TAMUT up 1-0.

In the top of the 3rd, UHV took the lead following 2 runs. The Jaguars picked up 3 hits, one walk, and an Eagles error to plate their runs. The Eagles answered in the bottom of the inning with 3 runs to take a 4-2 lead. Kolton Perfect singled to left center to get things started. Wyatt Miller singled to right to advance Perfect to third. Cade Thomason grabbed 2 RBI’s on his single down the right field line. George Gugino singled to center that would bring Frost in to score.

Houston-Victoria would put together a 2 run inning in the 6th. Yribe would be relieved of his duties after UHV plated their 2 runs. Neiko Martinez would enter to pitch for TAMUT and he would record the final 2 outs of the 6th inning. In the bottom of the 6th, TAMUT would get back one run to give TAMUT a 7-4 lead. Bronson Butcher would lead off the inning with a walk. Heath Eubanks would enter as a courtesy runner and would steal second base. Kolton Perfect singled up the middle to score Eubanks.

TAMUT would call upon Teddy Henderson in the top of the 7th inning. Henderson would find some trouble with UHV as they put together 4 hits to score 3 runs. Teddy would be relieved after recording one out by Mike Herrera. He would also have a quick outing after recording one out, giving up one hit, and walking a batter. Caleb Baker would record the final out on the mound for the Eagles.

Baker would go back out in the top of the 8th for TAMUT. The Jaguars tacked on 1 run in the inning to put the score at 10-8. TAMUT would be held scoreless in the bottom of the 8th.

Baker tossed a scoreless frame in the top of the 9th inning and the Eagles would enter the bottom of the 9th trailing 10-8. Cameron Frost led off the inning with a walk. Ethan Davis would pinch hit for TAMUT and he ripped a ball down the third base line that hit the bag for a single. Chase Beebe would pinch run for Davis. Beebe and Frost would both record a steal to move runners to third and second. Michael Moore would have the biggest at bat in the game and he delivered a clutch 2 RBI single through the right side of the infield. Heath Eubanks entered as a courtesy runner and would steal second on the first pitch. Kolton Perfect was intentionally walked to put runners at first and second. Cole Beckham singled through the left side of the infield to record a walk off RBI single. Eagles would take the series over Houston-Victoria with a 11-10 win.

Texas A&M-Texarkana will travel to Conway, Arkansas to take on non-conference opponent, Central Baptist College on Tuesday, April 11th. Game one is set for a 2:00PM start.
