Wacha leads Cardinals to three game sweep of Pirates with 2-1 win

ST LOUIS — Michael Wacha improves to 2-1 with 6 ⅔ inning performance vs Pittsburgh.

Wacha making his 3rd start of season was chased out with two runners on in top of 7th. Matt Bowman relieved Wacha and got a 3 pitch strikeout of Jordy Mercer to end inning.

Cardinals offense came off the bat of Dexter Fowler who had two solo home runs in 3rd and 5th innings. Prior to today Fowler had one career home run vs the Pirates in 63 games.

Wacha continued his day game dominance at Busch Stadium improving career mark to 10-2 with 99 innings pitched. Wacha was very efficient on the mound throwing only 88 pitches 55 for strikes.

Wacha began a new streak today with his win. His six game win streak dating back to last season came to an end in his last start at New York on April 14th.

Since 2014 Michael ranks T4th among NL pitchers in wins (10) for month of April.

Today’s 2-1 win for St Louis earns them a 3 game sweep of Pittsburgh where all three games were won by a 2-1 final score. The Cardinals have now won seven straight against their NL Central foe dating back to last year.

Next up: Cardinals (6-9) hit the road to Milwaukee (8-7) for a four game series beginning tomorrow.
