Sophomore Torie Blair enjoyed a remarkable performance for the Arkansas High Razorbacks last week in Magnolia, and it was not a real surprise.
Blair returned the second half kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown, igniting a 41-7 victory for the Hogs, 3-1 on the season, and ranked fifth in Class 5A. Blair’s effort earns him the Dewey Moore Ford/Fox Sports Texarkana Player of the Week. He also scored twice on runs, finishing with 113 yards on nine carries.
“Torie had a great game,” said Arkansas High coach Barry Norton. “We had a package to get him involved in the offense this week, and he made some really good plays. Anytime you get runs like he did, everyone else had to do a great job. We had a great kick return scheme, and he hit it just right.
Cameron Hall’s unfortunate injury as opened a door for Blair.
“Torie is a really good, young athlete; we expect big things from him,” Norton said. “He still has lots to learn, but there is no doubt he will work to be the best he can be.”
L-E’s Porche is ESPN Texarkana Player of the Week
The absence El-Amin Greer provided senior Shayne Porche an opportunity to excel last Friday night, and he didn’t disappoint Liberty-Eylau’s coaching staff.
Porche hauled in five receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown in the Leopards’ 41-7 win over Atlanta. That performance earns Porche the ESPN Texarkana/Dewey Moore Ford Player of the Week honor.
Mustang’s Gaul is KPYN/Dewey Moore Ford Player of the Week
Tatum jumped on Hughes Springs early and late last Friday night en route to a 64-36 victory over the Mustangs.
Despite falling to 2-2 on the season, junior quarterback Andrew Gaul had the Ponies fighting until the end, and is the KPYN/Dewey Moore Ford Player of the Week for his effort.
Circumstances gave Gaul a rare opportunity to throw the football. He responded with two touchdown passes and 123 yards via the airways. He also rushed for a touchdown.
